Embedding Video Files from Google Drive into Questions

Embedding Video Files from Google Drive into Questions

On Edcite questions, teachers can embed links to video files that are on Google Drive. In order for students to access these, it is necessary to ensure the files are shared with the students or the videos can be viewed by anyone who has the links.

On your Google Drive, locate the video you wish to embed and right click to get the options.

Click on the Share option. A window will open up that allows you to specify who can view your file. It is recommended that you choose 'Anyone with the link can view'

Hit 'Done'.  Now right-click on the file again and choose the 'Preview' option in the options menu.

When the video opens in the preview window, click on the vertical dots on the top right. Choose the 'Open in new window' option.

When the video opens in a new window, again click on the vertical dots on the top right. Choose the 'Embed item..' option.

A window opens up with the Embed file link shown. In the link, select the portion that is within the quotes following the 'src' - shown below.

Copy the selected portion using Ctrl+C or Cmd-C. Hit Ok to close the window.

Navigate to the Edcite question editor. Open the rich text editor using the blue pencil button.

In the rich text editor, click on the toolbar button to embed documents.

In the window that pops up, paste in the embed link that you've copied from Google Drive.

Hit Insert.  You can see the preview in the rich editor.

Hit Ok to exit the rich editor. Save the question. In the Question preview, you can see the embedded video and play it.
