Question Type - Improper Fraction Type - #106

The Improper Fraction Item Type is a response type used in assessments where students provide their answers as fractions, specifically in the improper fraction format (where the numerator is equal to or greater than the denominator, e.g., 7/4, 9/3).

Students enter their answers using either:

  • A circular grid input

  • A rectangular grid input

This Item Type is ideal for math questions involving division, fractions, or converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions.

Note: You can create an Improper Fraction Item Type(#106) question from the Create Question page. 


1. Name your question in the space provided at the top left of the question editor, and click the Save button.


2. If desired, add a stimulus to accompany the question in the space provided to the left of the question by clicking the Blue Pencil button and opening your Rich Text Editor. You can add text, audio, video, or images.  Click the OK button upon completion. You can name this tab or you can add a new tab with an alternative stimulus by clicking the (+) button.

 

3. Enter the instructions and/or prompts in the space provided. If desired, change the point value for the question in the box to the top right of the question.

 


4. Tag learning standards to your question by clicking the Tags tab. For more information about Tagging Standards, click here. Click the Show More button to see additional options. If desired, add a Rubric, Settings, Solutions, and Hints.

 

 

 

 

 

5. You can edit the settings of your Improper Fraction question by clicking the settings gear icon located at the top left corner of the question.


From there, you can configure the following options:

  1. Set the initial view for the student interface.

  2. Define the expected answer.

  3. Use the checkboxes to enable or disable features such as:

    1. Add one.

    2. Adding parts.

    3. Equivalent fraction option (allows students to input equivalent answers)

 

 

 


6. The editor displays the initial view that the teacher has configured in the settings. This allows the teacher to preview exactly how the question will appear to students when they first see it.
